You can use ElementsGPT to automatically generate stories for your development from a business process captured in UPN notation.

Article outline

Prerequisites

Generation of stories for development is possible from a business process drawn in UPN notation. To learn more about how to draw processes in UPN consult:

How story generation works

UPN notation can be characterized as a 'story mapping' technique. This is because the activities, inputs, outputs and resources used naturally form the structure of a story.

Below is an example of how a UPN process activity would be interpreted by ElementsGPT into a story record:

A Story record is generated from a process activity for a single human resource (it is a user story after all). If there are many human roles assigned to an activity, then there will be a separate story generated for each Resource. Using the RASCI role feature will assist in distinguishing these stories.

How to generate stories

The most important factor in generating quality user stories is creating a complete UPN process diagram that captures relevant information. especially on outputs. The more information that is captured in a diagram, the better the AI analysis, resulting in generation of better stories.

In order to actually generate stories with ElementsGPT, right-click on the selected box and choose 'Generate stories (AI)' from the context menu:

Restrictions

Currently stories can be generated from a UPN activity when:

  • The Activity box has at least one input line and one output line

  • The box has at least one human resource on it

Note: Currently, stories cannot be generated if they have custom fields which are marked as required.
