What Are Credits and How Can They Be Used?

Credits are the unit of consumption for certain premium operations in Elements. Each workspace (space) has a monthly pool of credits that are consumed when using specific features, such as syncing orgs or generating diagrams with AI.

Complex UI designed to drive engagement, not upsell

Credit Refresh Policy

  • Yes — credits refresh monthly for free and paid subscription spaces.

  • No — manually invoiced and consulting spaces do not auto-refresh.

When Credits Are Gone

When all credits are used up:

  • You can no longer execute features that require credits.

  • The space remains active (not blocked or downgraded).

  • The UI will show a warning when trying to perform credit-based actions.

Unused Credits at Refresh

Credits operate on a “use it or lose it” basis:

  • Unused credits do not roll over.

  • The monthly refresh overwrites any remaining balance.

Example:
If you have 1,000,000 credits and only use 500,000, the next month you’ll still have 1,000,000 (not 1.5M).

Subscription Cancellation or Downgrade

  • Downgrades take effect at the next renewal date.

  • Unspent credits are forfeited.

  • The Free Plan allowance applies: 5,000 pooled credits per editor (max 3 editors).

💳 Payment Failures & Grace Period

Retry schedule:

  1. Immediate retry

  2. Retry after 3 days

  3. Retry after 7 days

Grace period: 7 days from first failed attempt

  • Existing credits remain usable.

  • Monthly refresh is paused.

  • If you hit 0 credits, paid features stop working.

  • After 7 days + all retries fail → space downgrades to Free.

  • Billing date stays the same (no renewal drift).

🔔 Notifications for Credit Exhaustion

When your space runs out of credits:

  • Admins receive both an in-app and email notification.

Existing Paid Spaces

Existing manually invoiced Enterprise/Pro spaces will be migrated to:

  • Unlimited editors

  • 100,000,000 credits

  • No renewal date

Summary

Credits enable flexible, usage-based access to Elements’ most powerful features.
They:

  • Refresh monthly (for subscriptions)

  • Don’t roll over

  • Control premium operations

  • Are managed through the Billing Portal

By tracking your usage and staying within your credit balance, you can scale your Elements experience efficiently and predictably.
