Setting Up and Managing Manual Sync Only Policy

Gain full control over when your org synchronizations run by enabling the Manual Sync Only policy. This option prevents automatic daily syncs and requires manual initiation only by authorized users.

Updated today

This guide explains how the Manual Sync Only policy works, who can enable it, and how it affects synchronization at both the corporate management level and the individual org model level.

Prerequisites

  • Corporate Management Admin can enable this policy at the corporate level.

  • Org Model Manager can enable it for their org models, unless the setting is enabled by corporate policy.

What The Manual Sync Only Policy Does

When the Manual Sync Only policy is enabled, Elements will:

  • Not store the refresh token for your organization.

  • Disable scheduling of daily synchronisation.

  • Allow syncs to run only when triggered manually by an org model manager.

  • Never auto-retry a failed sync; it must be restarted manually.

This gives organizations and org model managers stricter control over data synchronization, especially when automatic processes are not desirable for compliance or operational reasons.

Enabling Manual Sync Only for the Corporate Management

Corporate Management Admins can enhance security across their entire organization by enabling Manual Sync Only for all Salesforce org models in the managed space.

  1. As a Corporate Management Admin, navigate to the main dashboard of your corporate management.

  2. Select the Policies tab.

  3. Locate the policy named Enable Manual Sync Only and switch the toggle to ON.

  4. Confirm the action.

When Manual Sync Only is enabled from the Corporate Management Policies tab:

  • The policy applies automatically to every connected organization in your corporate management, regardless of space.

  • Newly connected Salesforce Orgs are also automatically covered by the policy.

  • Automatic scheduling is disabled for all org models, and refresh tokens will not be stored.

  • Synchronisation can only be initiated by authorised users via the Reauthenticate and Start Sync button in the Org Model Settings.

Disabling Manual Sync Only for the Corporate Management

Only Corporate Management Admins can remove the setting across their entire organization by disabling the Manual Sync Only policy for all Salesforce org models in the managed corporate.

If you disable the policy at the corporate management level:

  • All Salesforce Org Models in the corporate management revert to default behavior.

  • Elements will once again store refresh tokens and allow daily scheduled syncs.

Enabling Manual Sync for a Single Salesforce Org Model

If the policy is not enforced at the corporate level, org model managers or owners of org models can still enable Manual Sync Only for a single org model.

When Manual Sync Only is enabled from the org model:

  • Automatic scheduling is disabled for the org model, and the refresh token will not be stored.

  • Synchronisation can only be initiated by authorised user via the Reauthenticate and Start Sync button in the Org Model Settings.

You can enable this in two ways:

  • From the Org Model Settings sidebar of an existing org model.

  • During the process of connecting a new org.

Disabling Manual Sync for a Single Salesforce Org Model

IMPORTANT: Corporate-level policies always take priority. If Manual Sync Only is enabled at this level, individual org model settings cannot override it.

The Manual Sync Only policy can be disabled for a single org model only when it is not enforced by corporate management.

If you disable the policy for the org model, Elements will once again store the refresh token and allow daily scheduled syncs.

Limitations When Manual Sync Only Is Enabled

Enabling the Manual Sync Only policy affects not only synchronization and scheduling but also several integrated features. Because the refresh token is not stored, Elements cannot maintain continuous communication with a Salesforce org.

As a result, the following features will not be available while this policy is enabled:

  • All managed package functionality related to:

    • Elements Managed Package (q9)

    • Elements Quote Line Microscope

    • Elements–Copado Extension (copado)

    • Elements–DevOps Center Extension (sf_devops)

  • Two-Way Synchronization of Metadata Description
